Willy Nilly Friday, March 30, 2018

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Floral Friday Fotos,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters

1. Rain (Sky Watch Friday)
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, March 29, 2018
We have had several blustery, rainy days this week. When I was at the lake at Ballard Park yesterday, strong winds were pushing the water towards the north shore (towards me). I snapped a few photos and was glad to get back into my car!

2. Oxalis (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 27, 2018
Oxalis are wide-spread around the world, and there are hundreds of different kinds. The ones
I have are perennials with tiny white flowers, but other Oxalis varieties may have pink, red, or yellow blooms.

3.Good Food!
Florence, Alabama, USA, March 21, 2018
The Strawberry Walnut Chicken Salad at Legends Steakhouse with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing and toasted bread. It was delicious!

4. A Friend's Dog (Saturday's Critters)
Lauderdale County, Alabama, USA, March 21, 2018
Our friend's little dog chewed up the small balls they were using to teach him to fetch, so they gave him a basketball. He loves it!

He chases it around all over their yard, using his head, chest, and front legs to roll it along at an amazing speed. Most of the photos I made are just a blur as he went running by with it!

Then he rolls it back, asking for it to be thrown or kicked again. And the most amazing thing was that he rolled it back to a different person each time so we all had a turn. It was great fun!

5. Happy Easter!
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 29, 2018
I found this Easter message on the back of a Girlie Girl Originals™ T-shirt.
"He is risen, just as He said." Mathew 28:6 Hallelujah!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Once you get them started, they try to take over the world!

And for Wild Bird Wednesday and I'd Rather B Birdin'
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 28, 2018
The Tufted Titmouse, Baeolophus bicolor, is a frequent visitor to backyard feeders in the eastern half of the United States. You may attract them by offering sunflower seeds and suet, and by putting up bird houses.

Have a wonderful day!

Since there is no fence separating it from the road, I think this barn is used only for storage.

Your bird for today is...

1. Clouds (Sky Watch Friday)

4. Good Food!
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, March 19, 2018
Chicken and Rice Soup from Los Toros Mexican Restaurant: shredded chicken breast, rice, avocados, tomato, onion, cilantro and other spices with sliced avocado on the side. My friends like fresh squeezed lemon juice on their avocados, but I like mine with a generous sprinkle of black pepper.

5. Grape Hyacinths (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 19, 2018
Grape Hyacinths, Muscari, are natives of southern Europe, Asia, and northern Africa, but have been naturalized around the world. They are small, but make a brilliant blue impact when planted in large groups. Muscari are not true Hyacinths, and should not be confused with plants in the Hyacinthus family. (I think the insect is a Flower Fly, not a Bee).

Have a beautiful day!

Butterfly, March 22, 2018

Thankful Thursday and Little Things Thursday

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 19, 2018
Today I am thankful for early Spring butterflies! This is the Falcate Orangetip Butterfly sipping nectar from a wild pansy. And yes, I am thankful for early blooming wildflowers, too!

This is a male; the females do not have the orange tips on their wings.

Have a blessed day!

Killdeer, March 21, 2018

ABC Wednesday, Wild Bird Wednesday, and Wednesday Around The World
K is for Killdeer - an American Plover

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, February 9, 2018
The Killdeer, Charadrius vociferous, is the most common plover in North America, having a range all across the continent except for the extreme northern parts. Adults have two dark breast bands; juveniles have only one. Killdeers build their nests on the ground, and the chicks are able to move out of the nest almost immediately after hatching.

Look for them in open grasslands and fields. They seem to be especially fond of golf courses!

Have a wonderful day!

Solitary Sandpiper, March 17, 2018

Saturday's Critters, Weekend Reflections, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, March 8, 2018
I live 300 miles north of the Gulf Coast (Gulf of Mexico) so I am not familiar with shorebirds.
I see them only occasionally as they migrate through our area. I think this is a Solitary Sandpiper, Tringa solitaria. I am hoping that someone more familiar with shorebirds can confirm this ID for me.

1. Sunny But Cold (Sky Watch Friday)
Guntown, Mississippi, USA, March 13, 2018
We have had clear skies with cool temperatures. There was frost several mornings mid-week.

2. Dangerous Driver
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 9, 2018
We were driving behind this tractor with its load of hay when...

...the driver turned suddenly without giving any kind of signal!

3. Red Buckeye
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 15, 2018
When the Buckeyes begin to bud, it is time to hang up the Hummingbird feeders. Last year the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds arrived at our house on March 24th.

4. Wildlife: Wild Turkeys
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 11, 2018
The tom turkeys are strutting around with their chests puffed out, displaying their tail feathers.

5. Wildflowers (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 13, 2018
These Wild Violets are native to eastern North America, and are considered a weed in many places because their aggressive invasion may kill other plants.
